NCERT Uncovers Phishing Domains Impersonating Govt Agencies

News Desk

ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Security Emergency Response Team (NCERT) has identified multiple phishing domains masquerading as key national institutions, raising concerns over the potential theft of sensitive information from citizens.

These domains were detected on Sunday, October 4, and are believed to be part of a broader scheme to deceive the public.

The NCERT’s Threat Intelligence Centre reported that several suspicious domains were found impersonating various government and public sector organizations. Among these was a domain falsely claiming to be a ‘secure login’ for the National

Database and Registration Authority (Nadra). Other notable impersonations include the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

This alarming trend poses significant risks to citizens, as individuals may unknowingly provide personal information to these fraudulent sites.

The NCERT has urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from sharing sensitive data on unauthorized websites, emphasizing the importance of verifying the authenticity of online platforms.

In response to this growing threat, the NCERT is expected to enhance its monitoring efforts and collaborate with relevant authorities to mitigate risks associated with cyber fraud. Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious online activities to help combat this issue.
