Karachi: Investors in government-backed National Savings schemes will receive lower returns after the government announced a fresh revision in profit rates, reflecting changes in the broader interest rate environment.

According to a notification issued by National Savings, profit rates have been reduced across several popular schemes, including those designed for senior citizens, pensioners and regular income seekers.

The annual return on the Behbood Savings Certificate and Pensioners Benefit Account has been revised downward to 12.96 per cent, while the monthly profit rate for the Regular Income Certificate has been fixed at 11.52 per cent.

Under the updated structure, investors placing Rs100,000 in a Regular Income Certificate will now receive a monthly profit of around Rs960.

The government has also adjusted returns on Special Savings Certificates, which will provide an annualised profit rate of 11.2 per cent during the first six months, increasing to 12.6 per cent for the next six-month period.

Meanwhile, the Shuhada Family Welfare Account will offer an annual profit rate of 12.96 per cent under the revised schedule.

The new profit rates have come into effect immediately and will apply to the respective National Savings schemes, impacting millions of investors who rely on these instruments for fixed returns and secure savings.
