Rawalpindi: A man was killed in retaliatory fire after allegedly opening fire on a security forces patrol in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, police said.

According to a Rawalpindi Police spokesperson, the incident took place at around 11:15 am when Muhammad Hussain, son of Muhammad Baaz, allegedly fired a pistol at the patrol team, injuring one security official.

Security personnel responded to the attack, killing the alleged attacker at the scene, the spokesperson said.

Police said investigators recovered a mobile phone and other belongings from the deceased, adding that preliminary examination of the material had revealed further evidence and possible links relevant to the case.

Further investigation is under way to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and establish the nature of the alleged links, the spokesperson added.

The police spokesperson said law enforcement agencies remained on high alert and would continue efforts to counter terrorism and prevent activities linked to incitement and violence.
