Rawalpindi: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has intensified its taxpayer awareness campaign in Rawalpindi as the September 30 deadline for individuals and Associations of Persons (AOPs) approaches.

The campaign is aimed at encouraging citizens, traders and members of the business community to submit their income tax returns on time and ensure that all financial information provided is complete and accurate.

Taxpayers are being advised to organize their records well before filing, including details of income, expenditures, bank accounts, property, vehicles, investments, tax deductions and other financial assets and liabilities.

The FBR has also reminded taxpayers that returns can be submitted online through its IRIS system, allowing them to complete the process without visiting a tax office.

The Regional Tax Office (RTO) Rawalpindi and the FBR’s taxpayer facilitation sections are providing assistance on registration, return filing and other tax-related matters. The RTO Rawalpindi, located on Mayo Road, is serving as a key facilitation point for taxpayers in the city.

The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) is also coordinating with the tax authorities and organizing awareness sessions for traders, industrialists and other members of the business community to improve understanding of tax laws and filing requirements.

The FBR is simultaneously working to expand the tax base and promote documentation of economic activity through initiatives such as the Tajir Dost Scheme, under which activities have been conducted at the RTO Rawalpindi to facilitate the registration of traders and their inclusion in the formal tax system.

Tax experts have stressed that taxpayers with assets should pay particular attention to their wealth statements, ensuring that declared assets, income and expenditure are consistent and properly documented.

Under the current FBR schedule, individuals and AOPs generally have until September 30 to file their income tax returns, while the general deadline for companies is December 31. However, separate deadlines may apply to certain categories of taxpayers.

Authorities have advised taxpayers not to delay filing until the final days, warning that last-minute submissions could lead to congestion on the online system, technical problems and unnecessary inconvenience.

The FBR said timely and accurate filing was essential not only for meeting legal obligations but also for strengthening economic documentation, broadening the country’s tax base and improving revenue collection.
