KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced that Myanmar’s military leader, Min Aung Hlaing, is set to visit Kuala Lumpur in the coming days as the two nations prepare for the repatriation of nearly 10,000 displaced individuals from Myanmar.
The visit comes amid ongoing discussions about the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar, where thousands have fled due to conflict and persecution.
Anwar emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in addressing the challenges posed by the influx of refugees and the need for sustainable solutions. ‘We are committed to working with our neighbors to ensure a safe and dignified return for those affected,’ he stated.
This meeting holds significant implications for Malaysia’s foreign policy and its role within ASEAN, as it seeks to balance humanitarian concerns with diplomatic relations. The repatriation process is seen as a critical step towards stabilizing the region and addressing the root causes of displacement.
Looking ahead, both leaders are expected to discuss further measures to facilitate the repatriation process and enhance bilateral relations.
The meeting is anticipated to take place before the end of the month, with both parties keen to outline a clear path forward for the affected communities.
