LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Alia Neelam on Friday expressed strong displeasure over the poor drafting and illegible content of police First Information Reports (FIRs), remarking that the legal texts are so flawed that they cannot be read even with spectacles.
Presiding over a high-profile hearing, the chief justice criticized the standard of investigation and documentation maintained by law enforcement agencies.
She pointed out that foundational legal documents presented before the bench routinely suffer from severe typographical and structural deficiencies, undermining the administration of justice.
Legal experts note that recurring flaws in FIR registration and police reports often lead to prolonged litigation, unnecessary delays in trials, and undue hardship for citizens.
The judiciary has repeatedly urged provincial law enforcement to modernize its record-keeping and investigative protocols to ensure transparency and accuracy.
The court directed relevant authorities to take immediate notice of the persistent administrative shortcomings and submit a comprehensive compliance report outlining steps to improve police report drafting standards in future proceedings.
