Islamabad Residents Lose Over Rs3 Billion to Crime This Year

ISLAMABAD: In a troubling trend, at least 4,500 individuals have fallen victim to various crimes in the capital this year, resulting in losses exceeding Rs3 billion.

The data, compiled by the Islamabad police, reveals a staggering 4,504 incidents of dacoities, robberies, snatching, burglaries, thefts, and auto thefts reported from January 1 to September 30.

Among these incidents, six people were murdered, and 44 others were injured, including 22 who suffered bullet wounds. The breakdown of the crimes shows that 518 occurred in residential areas, while 187 took place at commercial centers.

The total losses include cash amounting to Rs998,512,325, valuables worth Rs1,699,821,525, 868 tolas of gold, 97 vehicles, 1,905 motorcycles, and 1,781 mobile phones.

Police sources indicate that the actual number of victims and the value of stolen items could be significantly higher, as many FIRs related to these incidents have been sealed or kept confidential, often involving foreigners or prominent individuals.

DIG (Operations) stated that police have made arrests and recovered some stolen valuables, but the ongoing crime wave raises serious concerns about public safety.

This alarming rise in crime not only affects the safety of Islamabad’s residents but also poses challenges for the local economy and governance.

The concened authorities are under pressure to enhance security measures and restore public confidence. As investigations continue, the police are expected to implement new strategies to combat crime and protect citizens.
