LAHORE: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has apprehended 281 individuals, including 21 foreign nationals, during a series of operations targeting illegal call centres in Lahore.

The crackdown, which took place over the past week, aims to combat financial fraud, online harassment, and honey-trapping activities.

At a press conference on Friday, NCCIA Lahore Zone Additional Director Atif Ameer detailed the arrests, which comprised 260 Pakistani citizens and 21 foreigners—12 from China, five from the Philippines, two from Vietnam, one from Malaysia, and one from Nepal.

The agency also seized a significant cache of equipment, including 362 mobile phones, 191 computer systems, 74 laptops, 127 other digital devices, and 550 SIM cards, all of which are undergoing forensic examination.

This extensive operation underscores the NCCIA’s commitment to eradicating cybercrime in Pakistan, particularly as it relates to foreign nationals.

Ameer emphasized that the agency would continue to pursue legal action against those involved in such illicit activities, highlighting the importance of safeguarding citizens from online threats.

Looking ahead, the NCCIA plans to enhance its surveillance and enforcement measures against cybercrime, particularly focusing on protecting vulnerable populations, including children, from online exploitation.

The agency’s proactive stance signals a broader effort to ensure a safer digital environment in Pakistan.
