Islamabad Initiates Seminary Bank Accounts
News Desk
ISLAMABAD: The formal process to facilitate the opening of official bank accounts for religious seminaries in the federal capital has officially commenced, with authorities confirming the successful establishment of the first 24 accounts.
The development marks a significant milestone in integrating religious educational institutions into the formal financial framework, ensuring greater transparency and compliance with national and international regulatory standards.
During a detailed visit to a private commercial bank in Islamabad, Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi reviewed the ongoing registration and account-opening procedures. Bank officials briefed the prominent religious scholar on the streamlined mechanisms established to assist seminary administrators in fulfilling necessary documentation requirements without bureaucratic hurdles.
The integration of seminaries into the formal banking sector is expected to curb illicit financial flows and promote absolute transparency in foreign and domestic donations.
Financial analysts and policymakers view this step as crucial for aligning religious institutions with the broader national economy, thereby fostering financial inclusion and reinforcing institutional accountability across the board.
Following the successful opening of the initial batch of accounts, authorities plan to expand the facilitation drive to other major cities across the country.
Coordination between banking institutions, regulatory bodies, and religious representatives will be further strengthened to ensure that all registered seminaries acquire formal financial identities in the coming months.
