Hospital Linked to Monkeypox Virus Shut Down in Karachi

KARACHI: Authorities have shut down an illegal hospital in Korangi, Karachi, for its involvement in the spread of the monkeypox virus.
The Sindh Health Care Commission (SHCC) took decisive action against the facility, which was operating without proper licenses and posing a significant health risk to the community.
The SHCC’s intervention comes amid rising concerns over the transmission of monkeypox in urban areas. An official from the commission stated, “We cannot allow unregulated medical practices that endanger public health.
This facility was not only illegal but also lacked the necessary protocols to handle infectious diseases like monkeypox.” The closure aims to prevent further outbreaks and ensure that patients receive care from accredited medical institutions.
This action highlights the ongoing challenges faced by health authorities in managing infectious diseases in Pakistan.
With the global rise in monkeypox cases, the need for stringent health regulations and monitoring of medical facilities has become more critical than ever.
Citizens are urged to report any suspicious medical practices to safeguard their health.
Moving forward, the SHCC plans to conduct a thorough investigation into other potential illegal medical establishments in the region. They are also expected to enhance public awareness campaigns about the dangers of unlicensed medical services and the importance of seeking treatment from certified healthcare providers.
