LAHORE: Four patients undergoing routine dialysis procedures at the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital in Mian Channu have tested positive for HIV, setting off alarm bells regarding infection-control protocols across healthcare facilities in south Punjab. The affected cohort, which includes three women, was diagnosed following complications and subsequently transferred to Nishtar Hospital in Multan for specialized medical evaluation and critical care management.
Hospital officials at the Mian Channu facility initially downplayed the severity of the institutional lapse, asserting to local media that more than 60 patients utilize the dialysis unit and claiming that transmission of the deadly virus is structurally impossible through standard dialysis procedures. Nevertheless, independent medical sources and insiders suggest the true scale of the contamination may be understated, hinting that additional patients undergoing treatment at the same ward could also be infected.
