Gwadar: Four sea turtles have been found dead along a two-kilometre stretch of coastline in Gwadar, raising serious concerns among marine experts and environmentalists.

The local authorities have so far been unable to determine the cause of the deaths. However, experts say the repeated discovery of dead turtles in the area is a worrying sign and demands urgent attention.

Marine expert Abdul Rahim Baloch stated that unregulated fishing practices, accidental capture in fishing nets (bycatch), and the increasing number of boats operating in the area could be possible causes.

He described the deaths of such rare species as highly alarming and urged authorities to carry out a comprehensive investigation.

Similar incidents have been reported in the past, with several sea turtles found dead along the Gwadar coast. However, no thorough study has yet been conducted to identify the underlying causes.

Experts note that the coastal regions of Balochistan were once considered important breeding grounds for sea turtles.

In recent years, however, the frequent discovery of dead turtles has emerged as a serious environmental concern.

They have called on the relevant authorities to take immediate and effective measures to protect marine life. Experts have also appealed to local fishermen to safely release turtles if they become trapped in fishing nets, in order to help preserve this endangered species.

The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for stronger conservation efforts and better regulation of fishing activities along Pakistan’s coastline.
