KHYBER: At least four individuals were critically injured on Sunday when a high-intensity explosive device detonated adjacent to a residential building in the Khyber tribal district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, official police sources and rescue personnel confirmed.

The sudden blast shattered windows, damaged nearby structural walls, and triggered widespread panic among local residents in the early hours of the day.

Rescue services quickly responded to emergency calls, dispatching ambulances and paramedic teams to transport the wounded to a nearby district hospital.

According to medical staff, at least two of the victims are in precarious condition and have been transferred to a specialized trauma center in Peshawar for advanced treatment.

Police officials and bomb disposal experts swiftly cordoned off the crime scene, collecting shrapnel and chemical samples to ascertain the precise nature and quantity of the explosive material utilized in the attack.

The Khyber district, which borders Afghanistan, has long been a key strategic region severely affected by militant activity and cross-border insurgency.

Over recent months, the broader Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has experienced a notable uptick in improvised explosive device attacks, targeted ambushes, and hit-and-run strikes against both civilian homes and law enforcement personnel.

Security analysts attribute this escalation to persistent cross-border operational networks aiming to disrupt regional stability and undermine local governance.

Following the explosion, law enforcement agencies initiated a comprehensive search and sweep operation throughout the surrounding neighborhoods to track down suspects associated with the incident.

District administration officials assured the public that intelligence-led counter-terrorism measures are being intensified to neutralize ongoing security threats and guarantee the safety of civilian populations across the border belt.
