ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar will lead Pakistan’s high-level delegation to the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government meeting in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, scheduled for October 19 and 20.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Monday that Dar is undertaking the official visit following a formal invitation extended by Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda, highlighting Pakistan’s persistent diplomatic commitment to regional multilateral leadership and regional economic cooperation.
The Council of Heads of Government serves as the second-highest decision-making organ within the SCO framework, primarily providing key policy guidance on economic strategies, trade connectivity, financial mechanisms, and multilateral developmental projects.
Official spokespersons indicated that the summit will gather key global and regional leaders, including the prime ministers of Belarus, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Additionally, Iran’s vice president and India’s minister for external affairs will represent their respective member states at the high-stakes international summit.
Pakistan’s proactive participation in the Dushanbe conference highlights Islamabad’s overarching foreign policy objective of positioning itself as a central hub for trade, transit, and economic integration across Eurasia.
Amid shifting geopolitical dynamics and global economic headwinds, the SCO platform offers Pakistan an indispensable venue to advance discussions on sustainable economic growth, regional security cooperation, climate resilience, and seamless cross-border trade corridors alongside neighboring partner states.
On the sidelines of the primary sessions, DPM Ishaq Dar is scheduled to hold several bilateral engagements with participating heads of delegation and key foreign counterparts in Dushanbe.
These diplomatic side-lines will focus on deepening bilateral economic partnerships, expanding security consultation mechanisms, and reinforcing shared positions on regional peace and socio-economic integration before the conclusion of the summit.
