Grand Garden: K-pop supergroup BTS made a powerful comeback at the 2026 American Music Awards on Monday (May 25), sweeping major categories in their first AMA appearance in four years following their military hiatus.

The seven-member group, RM, Jin, SUGA, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, received a thunderous welcome from fans at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas as they marked a highly anticipated return to the global stage.

Despite skipping the red carpet, BTS opened the ceremony with a pre-recorded performance of “Hooligan” from their new album ARIRANG, filmed during their ongoing world tour. The performance electrified the arena and reaffirmed the group’s reputation as one of the most influential live acts in global music.

The night proved historic for the group, as they won all three categories in which they were nominated: Artist of the Year, Song of the Summer for “Swim”, and Best Male K-Pop Artist. The fan-voted Artist of the Year award marked their first win in the category since 2021.

Accepting the top honour from presenter Busta Rhymes, leader RM expressed gratitude to fans worldwide, saying the group’s success was made possible by ARMYs who have supported them throughout their 13-year journey. J-Hope also shared his appreciation, noting the overwhelming response to their latest album.

BTS edged out major international stars for Artist of the Year, including Bad Bunny, Bruno Mars, Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, Morgan Wallen, and Sabrina Carpenter.

One of the evening’s standout moments came when BTS presented the award for Best Female R&B Artist to SZA, who appeared visibly starstruck while meeting the group. During her acceptance speech, she paused to express admiration, calling the moment unforgettable before continuing her remarks.

The ceremony marked a defining moment in BTS’s return to the global spotlight, underscoring their continued influence on the international music industry.
