Law enforcement agencies and cybersecurity experts have uncovered two separate, chilling AI-linked murder plots involving 17-year-old college students in Karachi and Bahawalpur. The teenagers, who operated independently and did not know each other, allegedly utilized advanced artificial intelligence chatbots to plan violent crimes, with one instance triggering an international security alert when an AI chatbot autonomously contacted the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

According to investigative reports, the suspects used AI platforms to seek detailed instructions on executing murders and evading law enforcement. In the Bahawalpur case, the highly sophisticated nature of the queries prompted the AI system’s safety protocols to flag the interaction as an imminent threat, leading the developer’s automated system to alert the FBI, which subsequently notified Pakistani authorities. In Karachi, a similar pattern emerged where a teenager relied on digital algorithms to plan a domestic homicide, highlighting a dangerous trend of youth radicalization via digital tools.

These unprecedented cases have raised serious alarms among digital rights activists, psychologists, and security analysts in Pakistan regarding the unregulated access of minors to powerful AI models.
