Rawalpindi: Security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations across multiple districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, killing 23 militants linked to Fitna-ul-Khawarij during the last 48 hours, according to the military’s media wing.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the operations were launched on the basis of verified intelligence reports in sensitive areas including Datta Khel, Spin Wam and Bannu, where militants were believed to be operating from concealed hideouts.

The statement said security forces engaged militants in multiple intense gun battles during the operations, resulting in the killing of 23 terrorists. Among those killed was notorious militant commander Jan Mir alias Toor Saqib, who was wanted by security agencies in several major terrorism cases.

According to the military, Jan Mir carried a bounty on his head and was allegedly involved in attacks on security personnel as well as the killing of innocent civilians in different parts of the province.

The ISPR said troops also recovered a large cache of weapons, ammunition, explosives and ready-to-use improvised explosive devices from the militants’ possession.

During follow-up clearance and search operations, forces discovered and destroyed a sophisticated network of underground tunnels and bunkers allegedly used by the militants for movement and shelter.

Security forces have continued clearance operations in the affected regions to eliminate any remaining militants hiding in the area, the statement added.

Reaffirming the state’s resolve against militancy, the military spokesperson said anti-terror operations under the Apex Committee’s “Determination of Stability” vision would continue with full force until foreign-sponsored terrorism is completely eradicated from the country.
