Wounded Black Bear Died During Treatment In Mansehra

Peshawar: A female black bear found in critically injured condition in the Boghar Mang area of Mansehra by locals died during treatment at Dhodial Phesantary.

“We tried to save the wounded bear that had been shot in the rear part of the body, but she was too agitated and died as a result of her wounds,” informed Divisional Forest Division (DFO Wildlife) Mansehra Sarmad.

According to a video regarding the rescue of the beast by locals in the Boghar Mang area, the bear seems paralyzed due to injuries.

The Wildlife Department has started the investigation by filing an FIR, and efforts are underway for the arrest of the three persons nominated who are responsible for the killing of the bear and presently go underground.

Our team is still in the area and searching for the cubs of the bear along with locals, he added. Sarmad said the killing of female bears is mostly for the snatching of her cubs, which are used in cruel practices like dogfights or dance performances.

We are not presently clear whether the killing of the bear was a result of self-defense in case of attack or was killed for snatching cubs, DFO Wildlife shared.

Sarmad told that Boghar Mang is a densely forested area, and this is happening as a result of the local population growth and the close coexistence of humans and animals. Animal attacks on humans, poaching of wildlife, and murder in vengeance for livestock losses are all consequences of this coexistence between animals and humans.
