Karachi: Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a woman and her three children in Surjani Town, claiming to have recovered the alleged murder weapon from his possession.

DIG West Irfan Baloch said during a press conference that the arrested suspect, identified as Humayun, had confessed to killing the woman and her three children. According to police, Humayun is the brother-in-law of the victim’s husband and had previously rented accommodation from the family around one and a half years ago.

The DIG said the suspect, a resident of New Karachi, reached the victims’ house at around 2:30pm on the day of the incident, allegedly knowing that the woman’s husband would be away.

According to the police account, Humayun attempted to sexually assault the woman, and allegedly killed her and one of her daughters after she resisted. Police said the woman’s other children returned home from a madrassa at around 3pm, after which the suspect allegedly opened the door and killed them as well.

The DIG said the suspect remained inside the house between approximately 2pm and 4pm and allegedly attempted to make the incident appear to have been a robbery.

Police said investigators traced the suspect using evidence and information collected during the investigation and subsequently recovered the alleged murder weapon from his possession.

The bodies of a woman identified as Mehwish and her three children were previously found inside their home in Sector 7-D, Surjani Town, prompting police to investigate multiple aspects of the case.

Further interrogation of the arrested suspect is underway, while police are continuing to collect evidence related to the killings.
