Punjab Faces Growing Road Safety Crisis

Lahore: At least 12 people were killed and 1,158 others injured in 1,083 road traffic accidents across 37 districts of Punjab over the last 24 hours.
As many as 615 seriously injured people were shifted to different hospitals, while 543 with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by the rescue medical teams, reducing the burden on hospitals.
The analysis showed that 582 drivers, 52 underage drivers, 151 pedestrians, and 437 passengers were among the victims.

The statistics reveal that 283 accidents were reported in Lahore which affected 289 people, placing the provincial capital at the top of the list, followed by 72 in Faisalabad with 75 victims, and Multan with 54 accidents and 51 victims.
As per the data, 959 motorbikes, 71 rickshaws, 97 cars, 21 vans, 13 buses, 21 trucks, and 99 other types of vehicles and carts were involved in the accidents.
Another deadly collision took place on Manchanabad Road near Sunar Wali Road, where a loader rickshaw crashed into a motorcycle. The accident claimed the lives of two brothers, Umar Farooq and Yousaf, residents of Chak Laleeka, while their third brother was critically injured.
Authorities termed the incidents a reminder of the growing road safety challenges during holiday periods and urged motorists to exercise caution, avoid speeding, and follow traffic rules to prevent further tragedies
