Rizwan Questioned by NCCIA Over Allegations of Leaks
LAHORE:
Pakistan’s wicket-keeper/batter Mohammad Rizwan appeared before the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on Friday, facing questioning related to allegations of online betting, gambling, and leaking team information during the Test series in England earlier this year.
Rizwan, 34, was questioned for over three and a half hours by four NCCIA officials. After the session, he refrained from making any comments to the media, stating with a smile, “I am deaf (in this connection), the conduct (of NCCIA officials) was good. I am feeling hungry; so let me go.” The agency had previously confiscated Rizwan’s mobile phone in England on August 30, reportedly containing sensitive information.
The investigation into Rizwan’s conduct raises significant concerns about the integrity of Pakistan cricket, particularly in light of ongoing scrutiny over gambling and match-fixing in the sport. The outcome of this inquiry could have broader implications for the reputation of the national team and its players, as well as for the governance of cricket in Pakistan.
As the NCCIA continues its investigation, it remains to be seen whether further actions will be taken against Rizwan or if additional players will be called in for questioning. The agency has indicated that it will return Rizwan’s confiscated phone, but the timeline for this remains unclear.
