ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have successfully resolved a legislative deadlock, reaching an agreement to establish an Electoral Reform Committee aimed at overhauling the electoral process in the country.
The agreement was finalized during a meeting held on Tuesday, where leaders from both parties emphasized the necessity of comprehensive electoral reforms to ensure free and fair elections.
A senior PML-N official stated, “This committee will address key issues that have plagued our electoral system, fostering transparency and public trust in the democratic process.”
This development is significant for Pakistan’s political landscape, as it signals a potential shift towards more collaborative governance between the two major parties. Analysts believe that effective electoral reforms could enhance voter participation and legitimacy, crucial for the stability of Pakistan’s democracy.
Looking ahead, the newly formed committee is expected to convene within the next few weeks to outline its agenda and priorities. Both parties have expressed optimism about the committee’s ability to produce actionable recommendations before the next general elections.
