Islamabad: Hundreds of runners, families and fitness enthusiasts gathered at F-9 Park for Azadi Run 2026, turning the Independence Day celebration into a community-focused sporting activity.

Organised by university students in collaboration with Sportistan, the event was held on August 9 and featured three race categories — the 14K Challenge, 5K Freedom Run and Azadi Kids Fun Run.

More than 300 runners participated physically, while over 100 others joined virtually from different parts of Pakistan. The event also attracted more than 500 families and attendees, creating a lively atmosphere at the park.

Young people and children were among the prominent participants, with families joining the races and other activities as part of an Independence Day celebration centred on health, fitness and community engagement.

The organisers said the participation from Islamabad and other parts of the country demonstrated growing interest in running and fitness activities, particularly among young people and families.

The virtual category also allowed participants outside Islamabad to take part in the event, extending its reach beyond the capital.

According to the organisers, Azadi Run was designed to promote fitness, unity and community participation while providing an active way to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence.

They thanked the runners, families, volunteers, university students, partners and supporters whose participation contributed to the success of the event.
