How New Report Changes the Picture of Mir Raza’s Death

Karachi: Fresh medical findings in the Mir Raza Ali Khan case have raised further questions over the circumstances surrounding his death, as investigators widen their probe into a suspicious guesthouse and examine discrepancies between the initial and second post-mortem reports.
Mir Raza, a young Karachi resident, went missing from the Pakistan Employees Housing Society (PECHS) area on July 28 after leaving his home in an online taxi at around 4:09am. His body was recovered from Gulistan-e-Jauhar two days later.
According to police officials, the body was found in a severely damaged condition with a bullet wound to the chest. Investigators also noted that his social media accounts had reportedly been closed a day before the body was discovered.
A second post-mortem conducted after Mir Raza’s exhumation on August 8 has reportedly revealed injuries that were not reflected in the initial medical examination.
The latest preliminary findings indicate fractures to his ribs, injuries to the head, face and jaw, and damage to the nasal bone. A fracture and wound measuring around 12 centimetres were also reportedly found on his right thigh, while blood stains were detected on tissues in the lower part of the body.
The report further stated that the bullet entry mark on the back of the body was smaller than the mark on the front, a finding that medical experts reportedly believe could indicate that the bullet entered from behind.
Investigators collected 17 samples during the exhumation, including samples from Mir Raza’s parents for DNA comparison. The samples are expected to be submitted to the forensic laboratory at the University of Karachi for analysis.
Suspicious guesthouse under investigation
The investigation has also turned towards a guesthouse located near the area where Mir Raza’s body was recovered.
According to police, the guesthouse is registered in the name of Liaquat Ali, while the property itself is owned by a woman. Police verification of the premises was reportedly conducted on June 1, 2026.
However, investigators found that the guesthouse had not been registered on the Hotel Eye application, a system that police had made mandatory for such establishments.
Following the incident, police sealed the guesthouse and detained six people working there. Authorities have so far questioned 21 people, including Mir Raza’s friends and business associates, as part of the investigation. Statements from those detained have also been recorded.
A five-member investigation committee is separately examining the case under the supervision of DIG Crime Branch Amir Farooqui.
Police have also expanded the legal scope of the case by adding Section 201 of the Pakistan Penal Code to the existing charges under Sections 365 and 302. Section 201 relates to causing disappearance of evidence or providing false information to screen an offender.
The conflicting medical findings and the investigation into the guesthouse have added new dimensions to a case that began with Mir Raza’s disappearance and later turned into a murder investigation.
His family had said that he was looking forward to starting a new chapter in his life, with his nikah scheduled for August 30 at Baitul Mukarram Mosque in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
Investigators are now awaiting forensic and DNA results as they continue to establish what happened to Mir Raza between his disappearance and the discovery of his body.
