Islamabad Set For Spectacular Celebrations

Islamabad: The federal capital is set for an extensive Independence Day makeover, with authorities planning citywide decorations, public activities and enhanced security ahead of August 14 celebrations, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) said.

CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa said preparations were being carried out jointly by the CDA, Islamabad Administration and Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) on the directions of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Under the plan, major arteries including Constitution Avenue, Srinagar Highway, Club Road and Jinnah Avenue will be illuminated with decorative LED lighting and digital streamers, while national flags and patriotic colours will be displayed across the city.

Government buildings will also be decorated as part of the celebrations, while branding related to Independence Day and Marka-e-Haq will be displayed on electric and other buses operating in Islamabad.

The authorities are also planning a range of activities aimed at increasing public participation, including flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural programmes, national songs, fireworks, painting competitions, debate contests and school tableaux.

Randhawa said Islamabad’s 279 public parks would receive special decorations, while sports facilities including football, cricket and paddle courts would be activated to provide opportunities for young people to participate in the celebrations.

The CDA chairman said efforts were also being made to improve the city’s cleanliness and overall appearance so that families could take part in the festivities in a safe and welcoming environment.

Security arrangements are being strengthened alongside the preparations. In coordination with Islamabad Police, checkpoints will be established at entry and exit points, CCTV surveillance will be increased and dedicated security teams will be deployed around major celebration venues.

Randhawa said this year’s celebrations would also highlight the theme of Marka-e-Haq, describing it as a symbol of national unity, resilience and collective resolve.

With preparations underway across the capital, authorities are aiming to combine traditional Independence Day festivities with cultural, sporting and community activities while ensuring heightened security throughout the celebrations.
