BEIRUT: Lebanon has unveiled its first solar-powered train, marking a significant step towards revitalizing the country’s historic railway system.

This innovative model train has returned to a section of the railway that has been largely dormant for decades, aiming to enhance public transportation and promote sustainable energy solutions.

The new train, which operates on solar energy, was inaugurated in a ceremony attended by government officials and transportation advocates.

Minister of Transport Ali Hamie emphasized the importance of this project in restoring Lebanon’s once-thriving railway network, stating, “This initiative not only modernizes our transport infrastructure but also aligns with our commitment to environmental sustainability.”

The revival of the railway system is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in urban areas while providing a reliable alternative for commuters.

As Lebanon grapples with economic challenges, the introduction of this eco-friendly transport option could stimulate local economies and encourage tourism, potentially transforming the way people travel across the country.

Looking ahead, the government plans to expand the railway network further, with additional solar-powered trains expected to be introduced in the coming years. Stakeholders are optimistic that this project will pave the way for more investments in public transport and infrastructure development, fostering a greener future for Lebanon.
