Lahore Police Arrest Youth for Rs700,000 Bank Heist Linked to PUBG Game
LAHORE: A young man has been arrested by police just hours after he allegedly robbed a bank of Rs700,000, reportedly motivated by a task from the popular online game PUBG. The incident occurred on Friday morning at approximately 9:30 AM near Bhatta Chowk in Defence.
According to DIG Operations Faisal Kamran, the suspect, who was masked, entered the bank premises after taking a security guard hostage. He then proceeded to the cash counter with the guard, collected the cash, and fled the scene within minutes. Kamran noted that the suspect’s quick return home indicated he was not a habitual criminal.
The DIG explained that financial difficulties may have driven the UK-returned youth to commit the crime, as he sought assistance from the online game. This incident raises concerns about the influence of gaming on real-life behavior and the desperation that can lead individuals to crime.
Following the robbery, police teams were dispatched immediately after receiving an emergency call. Utilizing the Safe City surveillance system and private cameras, authorities were able to trace the suspect back to his residence, located just a short drive from the bank. The suspect, identified as Subhan, had returned to Pakistan from the UK on September 16.
