Jurassic Park Star Sam Neill Dies at 78

Sydney: Sam Neill, the acclaimed actor best known for portraying Dr Alan Grant in the blockbuster Jurassic Park franchise, has died at the age of 78, according to a statement released by his family.

The family said Neill passed away in Sydney, Australia, surrounded by his loved ones during his final moments. They described his death as sudden and unexpected, remembering him as a man who lived with dignity, resilience and grace throughout his life.

In their statement, the family noted that although Neill had battled cancer in recent years, he had recovered from the illness and continued to face life with courage. Neill revealed in his 2023 memoir that he had been diagnosed with stage-three angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare form of blood cancer, in 2022. He underwent extensive treatment, and while the disease later came under control, he continued to receive regular monthly therapy.

With a career spanning decades, Neill earned international recognition for his portrayal of paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, a role that made him one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces.
