Islamabad: Islamabad’s district administration has announced local holidays on April 9 and 10, ordering the closure of all educational institutions and offices across the federal capital.
According to an official notification, all public and private schools, colleges, and offices within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) will remain closed on Thursday and Friday. However, essential services will continue to operate without disruption.
The notification clarified that key departments—including the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), Capital Development Authority (CDA), ICT Administration, ICT Police, Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), and hospitals—will remain functional during the holiday period.

The decision comes in the wake of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts that contributed to a temporary pause in the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran. Mediation by Islamabad reportedly helped secure a two-week ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also invited delegations from both countries to Islamabad on April 10 for further negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive and lasting agreement.
In a statement shared on X, the premier expressed gratitude to the leadership of both nations and voiced optimism about the upcoming talks, often being referred to as the “Islamabad Talks,” hoping they would pave the way for sustainable peace in the region.
Pakistan has recently played an active role as a diplomatic intermediary between the United States and Iran, positioning itself as a key channel for dialogue amid escalating regional tensions.
