Is Realme’s New 5G Phone a Battery Beast?

New Delhi: Realme has expanded its 5G smartphone lineup in India with the launch of the realme 16x 5G, a device that puts battery endurance, display smoothness and durability at the forefront rather than focusing solely on raw performance.
The smartphone arrives with a 7,000mAh battery, a 144Hz adaptive-refresh-rate display and MediaTek’s Dimensity 6300 5G chipset, positioning it as an option for users who want extended battery life alongside everyday performance and gaming capabilities.
One of the phone’s biggest selling points is its 6.8-inch HD+ display, which supports refresh rates of up to 144Hz and peak brightness of 1,200 nits. The higher refresh rate is designed to deliver smoother scrolling, animations and gameplay, while the brightness level should improve visibility in brighter surroundings.
A phone built around battery endurance
The 7,000mAh battery is arguably the defining feature of the realme 16x 5G. It supports 45W wired fast charging and reverse wired charging, allowing the device to act as a power source for compatible accessories and other devices.
Realme has also incorporated AI-based power management and cooling technologies aimed at reducing power consumption and controlling temperatures during prolonged use.
Under the hood, the Dimensity 6300 chipset is built on a 6nm process and can reach speeds of up to 2.4GHz. The phone comes with up to 14GB of Dynamic RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage.
For users who spend extended periods gaming, Realme has included a 5,300-square-millimetre vapour chamber cooling system along with its GT BOOST gaming features.
50MP camera brings AI-focused tools
The camera setup includes a 50MP AI rear camera and an 8MP front camera.
Rather than relying only on megapixel numbers, Realme has added software features such as AI Ultra Clarity and AI Eraser. These tools are designed to enhance image details and remove unwanted objects from photographs.
The phone also supports AI Motion Photo and Dual-View Video, while a Pulse Light notification system provides visual alerts for selected notifications.
Durability gets a bigger role
Realme has also attempted to make the 16x 5G better suited to everyday knocks and challenging conditions.
The device carries an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance and has MIL-STD-810H certification. It also features Rain Touch technology, which is intended to maintain touch responsiveness when the display or the user’s fingers are wet.
Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, dual-SIM 5G connectivity, USB Type-C, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, along with a claimed 400 per cent volume boost.
Android 16 and longer software support
The realme 16x 5G runs Android 16 with Realme UI and is promised two Android OS upgrades and three years of security updates.
While this does not place the phone among the longest-supported smartphones in the market, it gives buyers a defined software-support period beyond the initial purchase.
Expected pricing
The official Indian retail pricing is expected to be announced around the launch. Pre-launch estimates suggest a starting price of around Rs25,999 for the 4GB RAM and 128GB storage model.
The 6GB/128GB version is expected to cost around Rs27,999, while the 6GB/256GB variant could be priced at approximately Rs30,999. These figures remain indicative until Realme confirms the final prices.
A battery-first approach to the mid-range market
With the realme 16x 5G, Realme appears to be targeting consumers who prioritise long battery life, a smoother display and everyday durability.
The combination of a 7,000mAh battery, 144Hz display, Dimensity 6300 chipset, 50MP AI camera and IP65 protection gives the phone a broad feature set. Its eventual competitiveness, however, will depend heavily on the final retail price and how it compares with other mid-range 5G smartphones available in India.
