NCCIA arrests 3 over online harassment

Lahore: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has intensified action against the misuse of digital platforms, arresting three men in separate operations in Lahore, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan over allegations involving online harassment, blackmail, threats and misuse of personal information.
According to an NCCIA spokesperson, the arrests were made during investigations into separate complaints involving the alleged misuse of social media and messaging applications.
In Lahore, officials arrested Azeem Jafri, a resident of Faisalabad, in connection with a complaint of alleged online harassment and defamation. Investigators said the suspect had allegedly used online platforms to harass and defame complainant Syed Muzaffar Iqbal Zehrazai. A mobile phone was recovered from his possession.
In Multan, NCCIA officials arrested Jamshed Mahmood Khan from Gulgasht Gol Bagh Park. The agency alleged that he had shared objectionable material belonging to a woman through WhatsApp and later threatened and blackmailed her. No material was recovered from the suspect during the operation, according to the spokesperson.
In another operation in Dera Ghazi Khan, officials arrested Sajjad Sarwar over allegations that he shared objectionable material of a woman through WhatsApp and subsequently threatened and blackmailed her. Investigators recovered a mobile phone containing material related to the messaging application.
The latest arrests highlight the agency’s growing focus on cyber-enabled harassment and the misuse of personal data, particularly through social media and messaging platforms.
Punjab NCCIA Director Muhammad Ali Wasim directed teams to strengthen investigations and enforcement against cybercrime and ensure greater protection of citizens’ privacy and digital rights.
He said strict action would continue against individuals allegedly using cyberspace to harass, threaten or blackmail others or to violate their privacy.
The agency’s intensified operations come amid growing concerns over the misuse of digital platforms for harassment and the unauthorized circulation of personal information, with authorities urging victims to report such incidents to the relevant cybercrime authorities.
