Islamabad: Five influential global figures are set to play a decisive role in high-level negotiations in Islamabad, talks expected to shape not only regional dynamics but also the broader course of global peace and diplomacy.
At the forefront of the US delegation is JD Vance, whose rise from a difficult childhood in Ohio to the vice presidency reflects a blend of military service, academic achievement, and political transformation.
A former US Marine who served in Iraq, Vance later earned degrees in political science, philosophy, and law, gaining national prominence through his bestselling memoir Hillbilly Elegy.
After winning a Senate seat in 2022, he was elected vice president in 2024, emerging as a key figure in shaping Washington’s domestic and foreign policy outlook.
Accompanying him is Steve Witkoff, a real estate magnate turned diplomat who enjoys close ties with Donald Trump.
Despite lacking formal diplomatic training, Witkoff has been entrusted with major international assignments, including mediating ceasefire efforts in the Middle East and engaging in discussions related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
