SHC Hints at Transferring Rs8.5bn Yellow Line Graft Case to NAB

KARACHI: Expressing severe annoyance over the continued and unexplained failure of the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) to submit a formal charge sheet, the Sindh High Court has hinted at referring the Rs8.5 billion Bus Rapid Transit Yellow Line corruption case to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for comprehensive further investigations.
During the hearing, a two-judge constitutional bench headed by Justice Mohammad Saleem Jessar issued a strict show-cause notice to the ACE chairman, noting that the persistent delay in presenting the trial challan reflects serious institutional negligence.
The bench observed that this sluggishness raises legitimate questions regarding whether the inquiry is being deliberately stalled to benefit the accused or prejudice the prosecution.
The multi-billion-rupee mass transit initiative was designed to transform Karachi’s urban transport landscape, easing daily commutes for thousands of citizens.
However, persistent financial irregularities and administrative bottlenecks have severely stalled project milestones, drawing sharp criticism from the judiciary and fueling public frustration over systemic governance flaws.
The court has directed the ACE and other relevant respondents to submit detailed explanations regarding the apparent lack of progress. Further legal proceedings and formal decisions regarding the transfer of jurisdiction to NAB are expected during the upcoming hearings.
