Rawal Dam Spillways to Release Water at 6am

Islamabad: Authorities have stepped up safety measures in Islamabad after rising water levels at Rawal Dam prompted plans for a controlled release of water through the dam’s spillways on Saturday morning.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) announced that spillways will be opened at 6am after the reservoir level reached 1,748.30 feet amid continuous monsoon rainfall.

The controlled release is expected to increase water flow in Korang Nullah, with residents living along its banks being warned to remain alert and take precautionary measures.

NDMA said all relevant federal, provincial, and local departments have been informed to ensure coordination and readiness before the water discharge begins. Emergency response teams have also been placed on alert to respond to any situation.

Officials advised residents to avoid going near the nullah, crossing temporary bridges, or using low-lying routes if water levels rise. Citizens have also been urged to follow instructions from local administrations and rely on official updates.

The authority said the precautionary steps are aimed at reducing risks to lives and property as monsoon rains continue across the region.

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary movement near waterways during the spillway operation and remain cautious until water flow returns to normal levels.
