PTI Must Show Seriousness in Negotiations: Tarar

ISLAMABAD: Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar has said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was given several opportunities for negotiations, but the talks failed to make meaningful progress.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Tarar said negotiations should not be denied, but the opposition must demonstrate seriousness if it wants dialogue to move forward.

The federal minister said maintaining security in Islamabad was the government’s responsibility, noting that the capital had been subjected to attacks on several occasions.

Regarding PTI founder Imran Khan, Tarar said demands for his release were a matter for the courts. He added that the Supreme Court had ordered a medical examination of the PTI founder, which was subsequently conducted by the government.

Tarar also referred to previous incidents of unrest involving PTI, saying the party’s record was sufficient to assess its conduct. He said the government had been aware of security concerns on previous occasions and had brought the matter before the courts, referring to incidents in May 2022 and November 2024.

The law minister maintained that protests must be conducted in accordance with the Constitution, stressing that the country operates under constitutional and legal frameworks.

He said political objectives could not be achieved through the use of force and urged adherence to constitutional processes.
