Pentagon Watchdog Warns of US Weapons Shortage

Washington: The United States is facing growing shortages of weapons and ammunition amid its ongoing war with Iran, according to a report by a Pentagon watchdog.

The US Department of Defense Inspector General has released its first detailed assessment of the financial and military costs of the conflict, which has continued since February.

According to the report, US spending on the war had surpassed $33.4 billion by the end of June. Weapons and bombs worth more than $22.3 billion had been used, while military equipment and aircraft valued at approximately $3.7 billion had been destroyed or lost.

The report said more than 50 US aircraft and drones had been destroyed or severely damaged during the conflict. The losses reportedly include four F-15E fighter jets, one F-35A, one A-10 Warthog, 12 KC-135 aerial refueling aircraft and at least 30 MQ-9 Reaper drones.

The sustained fighting has also placed significant pressure on US military stockpiles, with the Pentagon reportedly facing severe ammunition shortages and disruptions across its supply chains.

The findings contrast with President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that the United States is producing the most advanced weapons in its history and supplying them to American forces in the Middle East and other regions on a daily basis.

The report highlights the mounting financial and logistical pressures facing the US military as the conflict continues.
