KARACHI: Pakistani engineer Hammad Ubaid has been missing for 30 days following an attack on the cargo ship MTL Gaya near the coast of Oman.
The 34-year-old third engineer from Karachi was reported missing on September 13, shortly after the incident.
According to family sources, Ubaid was aboard the vessel when it came under attack, leading to a chaotic situation that resulted in the disappearance of several crew members.
On September 26, the families of the crew were informed about the recovery of two bodies, but Ubaid’s whereabouts remain unknown. His family has expressed deep concern and is calling for urgent action from the authorities to locate him.
This incident raises significant concerns about the safety of maritime workers in the region, particularly given the increasing frequency of attacks on commercial vessels. The Pakistani government has been urged to enhance protective measures for its citizens working abroad, especially in volatile regions.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident and are expected to hold meetings with maritime security agencies to discuss preventive measures.
Families of the missing crew members are also seeking assistance from the Pakistani embassy in Oman to facilitate the search efforts.
