Pakistan Warns Kabul of Consequences Amid Ongoing Border Clashes

News Desk

KHYBER: Pakistani and Afghan border forces engaged in armed clashes on Sunday, resulting in the temporary closure of the Torkham border crossing and raising tensions between the two nations.

The skirmishes were triggered by a dispute over a check post, leading to one civilian casualty from mortar shelling near the Angoor Adda crossing.

The Pakistani military issued a stern warning to the Afghan Taliban, stating they would not be able to endure the ‘unbearable punishment’ Islamabad could impose if Kabul fails to control terrorist activities emanating from its territory.

This warning comes amid growing concerns over cross-border attacks, which the US has acknowledged, expressing its willingness to assist in de-escalating the situation.

The closure of the Torkham crossing lasted nearly five hours, following an hour-long exchange of light-arms fire.

This incident highlights the fragile security situation along the border, which has significant implications for trade and movement between the two countries, as well as for regional stability.

In light of these developments, diplomatic efforts may intensify, with potential discussions involving US officials aimed at addressing the underlying issues contributing to the violence.

The situation remains fluid, and further clashes could prompt a more robust response from Pakistan.
