Pakistan, US Pledge Joint Fight Against Terror Groups

Islamabad: Pakistan and the United States (US) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening counterterrorism cooperation, underscoring a shared resolve to combat militant groups and enhance regional security through closer coordination.
The commitment was made during the fourth US-Pakistan Counterterrorism Dialogue held in Washington, where senior officials from both countries reviewed the evolving security landscape and explored ways to expand bilateral cooperation against terrorism.
Pakistan’s delegation was led by Ambassador Nabeel Munir, Special Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the US side was headed by Ambassador Gregory LoGerfo, the US Coordinator for Counterterrorism.
According to the Foreign Office, both sides agreed to intensify joint efforts against terrorist organisations, including the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Daesh (ISIS-K), al-Qaida (AQ), the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), and their affiliated networks.
The two countries reaffirmed that sustained counterterrorism collaboration remains vital to ensuring the safety of their citizens and promoting long-term peace, stability, and prosperity across the region.
During the dialogue, officials exchanged assessments of the current security environment and discussed measures to strengthen border security, improve intelligence cooperation, and disrupt terrorist facilitation networks.
The meeting comes as Pakistan continues to face an uptick in militant violence, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021.
Islamabad has repeatedly urged the Afghan interim government to prevent terrorist groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistan. It has also accused India of backing militant groups targeting Pakistan from across the border.
Earlier this year, Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq in response to cross-border militant attacks. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also called for national unity against terrorism, saying the country remains committed to eliminating the threat through a collective effort.
The latest dialogue reflects the continued importance both Islamabad and Washington place on counterterrorism cooperation as a key pillar of their bilateral relationship and regional security agenda.
