Singapore-Flagged Cargo Ship Sinks
A Singapore-flagged container ship has reportedly sunk after striking a mine in the Strait of Hormuz, with all 21 crew members rescued safely, according to foreign media reports.
The Revolutionary Guards’ navy said the vessel was attempting to navigate an unauthorised and dangerous maritime route through the strategic waterway.
According to Iranian officials, the ship was carrying more than 2,500 containers loaded with electronic devices and other valuable goods when the incident occurred.
Footage released after the incident reportedly shows thick black smoke rising from the vessel, while numerous containers can be seen floating in the sea. Videos also show people arriving in small boats from the Iranian coastline and retrieving containers and valuables from the water.
All 21 crew members aboard the vessel were reportedly rescued safely. Further details regarding the extent of the damage, the circumstances surrounding the explosion, and the financial losses have not yet been confirmed.
The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically important international shipping route, making incidents involving commercial vessels a significant concern for maritime security and global trade.
