July 29 Declared Holiday in Sindh—Here’s the Reason

Karachi: The Sindh government has announced a province-wide public holiday on July 29 to commemorate the annual Urs of renowned Sufi saint and poet Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, with three days of religious and cultural celebrations set to begin.
According to an official notification, all provincial government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils operating under the administrative control of the Sindh government will remain closed on Wednesday, July 29.
The notification states that the holiday has been declared in observance of the 14th of Safar, 1448 AH, marking the beginning of the annual Urs celebrations of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.
The three-day Urs is observed every year from the 14th of Safar and attracts thousands of devotees, scholars, poets, and visitors from across the country to pay tribute to the legendary Sufi poet.
As part of the celebrations, a series of literary and cultural events will be held, including poetry recitals, literary conferences, and other activities highlighting Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s timeless poetry and spiritual teachings.
The annual Urs is regarded as one of Sindh’s most significant cultural and religious events, celebrating the life, philosophy, and literary legacy of one of the region’s most revered Sufi figures.
