Islamabad, Rawalpindi hit by heavy monsoon rains

Islamabad: Continuous heavy rains accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms have brought pleasant weather to several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad. However, the downpour has also caused difficulties for residents, with flooding in rivers and canals, water accumulation on roads, and inundation of low-lying areas reported in multiple regions.
The Meteorological Department has forecast more rainfall over the coming days, stating that the current spell of wet weather is likely to continue until June 20.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, intermittent heavy rainfall was recorded in both plains and upper areas of Shangla district. The showers helped break the ongoing heatwave in lowland areas, while temperatures dropped significantly in the hills, making the weather notably pleasant.
Abbottabad city also experienced rainfall, resulting in water accumulation on several roads. In some areas, streets were submerged, creating pond-like conditions. Haripur, including Tehsil Ghazi and Khanpur, received heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. Sections of the GT Road in Haripur were inundated, while nearby low-lying areas were flooded.
According to the Meteorological Department, intermittent rainfall is expected to continue in Haripur and surrounding areas for the next two days.

In Mingora, the main city of Swat, heavy rainfall caused flooding in rivers and streams. Several urban roads were submerged, disrupting traffic flow and causing significant difficulties for commuters due to rising water levels in water channels.
In northern parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, dark clouds covered the skies and rain continued at various locations, further improving weather conditions.
Meanwhile, Rawalpindi and Islamabad also witnessed heavy showers, bringing relief from the intense heat. The temperature dropped noticeably, and residents welcomed the cooler conditions brought by the rain and wind.
The Meteorological Department has predicted that rainfall will continue intermittently in Islamabad and Rawalpindi until tomorrow, while scattered showers may persist in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until June 20.
In response to the weather situation, local administrations have been placed on alert. The Deputy Commissioner Islamabad has directed Assistant Commissioners to closely monitor low-lying areas to ensure timely response in case of emergencies.
The Meteorological Department has also advised citizens to take precautionary measures during the rainy spell and avoid unnecessary travel near rivers, streams, and flood-prone areas.
