Islamabad Goes 24/7 with Free Bike Transfers

Islamabad: In a move aimed at widening access to the government’s petrol subsidy, the Islamabad administration has scrapped motorcycle transfer fees and introduced 24-hour service at Excise offices, removing key hurdles for vehicle owners seeking eligibility.
Officials say the initiative is designed to fast-track ownership transfers, enabling more citizens to register motorcycles in their own names—a requirement for availing the subsidy.
A spokesperson for the Excise Department confirmed that bike ownership can now be transferred free of cost, while additional counters have been set up to manage the expected surge in applications.

Director General Excise said the facility will remain available round the clock to ensure maximum public convenience. “The objective is to eliminate cost and time barriers so that deserving individuals can benefit from the subsidy without delays,” he added.
Authorities have also deployed extra staff to assist applicants and streamline the process, aiming to reduce waiting times and improve service delivery.
Officials noted that the step is part of broader efforts to make relief measures more accessible, particularly for low-income motorcycle users who rely heavily on fuel for daily commuting.
Citizens have been advised to bring all required documents to avoid inconvenience, as the department anticipates increased footfall following the announcement.
