Hot, dry weather forecast for Balochistan

Quetta: The Pakistan Metrology Department (PMD) has forecast hot and dry weather in most parts of Balochistan during the next 24 hours. According to the Met Office, the minimum temperature in Quetta was recorded at 12.0 degrees centigrade and 01.2 degrees centigrade in Ziarat on Thursday.

However, rain received in Lasbela and Sibbi districts.

Balochistan on Alert as New Monsoon System Raises Flood Risks

QUETTA: Authorities in Balochistan have stepped up preparations as a fresh spell of monsoon rains is expected to affect several parts of the province from July 11 to July 12, with officials warning of possible flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in Zhob, Sherani, Duki, Kohlu and Harnai, while thunderstorms are likely in Loralai, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Dera Bugti and Khuzdar.

The weather advisory warned that intense rainfall could trigger flash floods in rivers, streams and low-lying areas, while mountainous regions may face landslide risks due to unstable terrain.

Following the forecast, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has directed district administrations in affected areas to remain vigilant and ensure emergency measures are in place.

Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary movement during periods of heavy rain and stay away from weak buildings, damaged structures, rivers and rainwater channels.

The PDMA has also discouraged visits to picnic areas during the wet spell, urging the public to follow safety guidelines and cooperate with local administrations.

Officials said advance preparedness and public awareness would be crucial in reducing the risks associated with the upcoming monsoon activity.
