Finger fracture ends Nawaz’s Champions Cup campaign

Lahore: Pakistan Gold suffered a major setback in the National Champions Cup 2026 as all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament after sustaining a fracture to his right middle finger.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Friday that Nawaz suffered the injury while fielding during Pakistan Gold’s six-wicket defeat against Pakistan Blues at Multan Cricket Stadium on August 12.

The 32-year-old completed his full 10-over spell despite the injury but underwent scans the following day, which confirmed the fracture. He has been advised a minimum of three weeks away from competitive cricket.

Nawaz’s injury ends his participation in the four-team tournament after just one appearance. In the match against Pakistan Blues, he scored eight runs with the bat and finished wicketless, conceding 44 runs in his 10 overs.

According to the PCB, Nawaz will report to the board’s Sports and Exercise Medicine Department after two weeks, where he will begin a rehabilitation and conditioning programme before progressing through the required Return-to-Play protocols under the supervision of the medical team.

The left-arm spinner’s absence leaves Pakistan Gold without one of their experienced all-round options for the remainder of the competition. He has been advised a minimum of three weeks away from competitive cricket.
