ECP Confirms No Changes to KP Constituencies

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has confirmed that there will be no changes to the constituency boundaries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the upcoming 2024 general elections, despite recent administrative adjustments made by the provincial government.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the ECP clarified that it has ‘re-described’ constituencies in light of changes to administrative divisions, a process it asserts is permitted under Rule 15 of the Election Rules 2017.

The commission emphasized that this practice has been employed in the past without necessitating a complete redrawing of constituency lines.

The provincial government recently restructured various districts, creating new districts and tehsils, which prompted the ECP’s clarification.

The commission reiterated that the existing constituency boundaries will remain unchanged, ensuring continuity for voters in the region.

Furthermore, the ECP stated that Section 22 of the Elections Act 2017, which requires the commission to solicit public input on proposed changes, does not apply in this case since no boundaries have been altered.

As the electoral process approaches, the ECP’s decision aims to provide clarity and stability for the electorate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
