Islamabad: At least eight people lost their lives and several others were injured in two separate incidents reported in Punjab and Sindh on Saturday, highlighting a deadly morning marked by a factory explosion and a road accident.
In Gujranwala, a powerful blast at Hafeez Metal Factory on Khiyali Road in Jinnah Colony claimed the lives of two workers and injured three others. The explosion triggered a massive fire that engulfed a significant part of the factory premises.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, six fire brigade vehicles were dispatched to the site to bring the blaze under control. Rescue teams recovered the bodies of two workers, one identified as Rehan, while efforts were underway to confirm the identity of the second victim.
The injured workers were shifted to DHQ Hospital for treatment, while police have started an inquiry to determine the circumstances that led to the explosion.
In another tragedy, six pilgrims heading towards Sehwan Sharif were killed when their vehicle overturned near the Qazi Ahmed-Amri Bridge in Fatoohal Zardari area.
Rescue officials and police reached the scene shortly after the accident and shifted the injured to emergency wards in Qazi Ahmed for medical care. Authorities have begun investigating the cause of the crash.
The two incidents have raised renewed concerns over workplace safety and road travel risks as emergency services responded to multiple fatal incidents across the country.
