SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: An assistant head of the police’s Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was martyred on Saturday after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in the Janta area of Sararogha tehsil while he was attempting to defuse it.

Upper South Waziristan District Police Officer (DPO) Ashfaq Khan confirmed that the official, identified as Abdul Jabbar, was critically injured in the explosion and later succumbed to his injuries.

Police sources indicated that Jabbar had successfully neutralized another IED in the vicinity prior to the fatal blast, suggesting that the second device may have been deliberately placed to target BDS personnel.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by security forces in the region, where militant groups continue to pose significant threats.

The loss of Abdul Jabbar not only underscores the dangers of counter-terrorism efforts but also raises concerns about the safety of bomb disposal teams operating in volatile areas.

In response to the explosion, the Sararogha police station’s Station House Officer (SHO) and a contingent quickly arrived at the scene to secure the area, gather evidence, and initiate an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are currently probing the potential involvement of terrorist groups in the attack.
