Body Too Decomposed to Reveal Cause of Actress’s Death: Police

News Desk

Karachi: The preliminary postmortem of actress and model Humaira Asghar Ali has failed to determine the cause of her death due to the advanced state of decomposition, police and medical officials confirmed on Thursday.

According to Police Surgeon Dr Samia, the body was severely decomposed when it was discovered in Humaira’s flat located in Defence Phase VI, making it impossible to ascertain the cause of death through initial examination. “The cause of death has been reserved until we receive the results of chemical analysis and DNA testing,” she said.

Body Remains Unclaimed

In a further tragic development, police officials say the actress’s family has refused to claim her remains. SSP South Mehroz Ali stated that Humaira’s relatives informed the authorities that they had severed ties with her two years ago and were not interested in taking responsibility for her burial.

“Despite repeated attempts to contact them and convince them to travel to Karachi, the family has made no further communication,” the SSP added.

The police have now assumed responsibility for Humaira’s burial, with assistance from the Chhipa Foundation, which has placed her body in a mobile cold storage unit due to the extent of decay.

A Life of Isolation

According to SSP Ali, Humaira had been living alone in the apartment since 2018. She reportedly stopped paying rent in early 2024, and her interactions with others had significantly diminished in recent years.

“She lived in complete isolation,” he said, noting that neighbours rarely saw her and that her flat was eventually sealed by court order following legal proceedings related to unpaid dues.

Troubled Past Alleged

Police sources suggest that Humaira had been struggling with drug addiction and had frequent disputes with her neighbours, which may have contributed to her social isolation. However, no official medical or toxicology reports have confirmed this claim.

The ongoing investigation remains on hold as her apartment has been sealed by the court, temporarily halting any further forensic analysis or evidence collection at the scene.

Humaira Asghar, though not a prominent name in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, had appeared in various modelling assignments and TV projects over the past decade.
