Barcelona Thrashes Alaves to Reclaim La Liga Lead

BARCELONA: Barcelona delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, defeating Deportivo Alaves 6-1 at Camp Nou to reclaim the top spot in La Liga.

The victory comes after two consecutive defeats, including a disappointing loss to Real Madrid in the Clasico and a setback in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain.

Raphinha and teenage sensation Lamine Yamal each scored twice, with Fermin Lopez adding another goal. Raphinha opened the scoring with two first-half goals, sandwiching a strike from Lopez, while Yamal found the net just before halftime.

Yamal added his second midway through the second half, and substitute Anthony Gordon capped the scoring for Barcelona before Mariano Diaz pulled one back for Alaves.

This emphatic win not only boosts Barcelona’s morale but also solidifies their position at the top of the league, moving them two points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid, who secured a 2-0 victory over Levante earlier in the day. Lopez praised the team’s resilience, stating, “It was a hard week for us; there was no better place than Camp Nou in front of our fans [to bounce back].”

Looking ahead, Barcelona will aim to maintain their momentum as they prepare for upcoming fixtures, with a focus on both domestic and European competitions. The team’s ability to bounce back from adversity will be crucial as they seek to reclaim their dominance in La Liga and make a deeper run in the Champions League.
